Web site updates

November 2010

The website has several new pages working including our "Photographers Portraits". Look under the "Photomates Past and Present" tab to find the new link. I also added a link under "Photo" on the top menu.
Elections:
We have elections coming up in January for new Executive Board Members. Several positions have been filled in the last few weeks but we still need membership approval for them to continue on after the election.
Pages that are now working:
Photographers Portraits from A to Z are now back. Look under "Photomates Past and Present" for the database and the portraits.
The Memorial page is now back online.
The Guest Book is working.
Biographies are working.
Photomates Past and Present Database is working.
I moved the NANP Member Database to a link on the side menu to make it easier to find.
The Blog is now working but I don't think it's going to be the asset I was hoping for. The guest book is a much quicker way of communicating. The Blog may help in membership recruiting and getting our message out but that remains to be seen. ...anyway, it's working.
I've moved a few things around on the side menu to help with navigation. We'll see how this works and make adjustments as necessary.
By-Laws are now current and working.

DC Chapter Elections

From Jason Brunson:

Please join me in congratulating our new officers for the DC Chapter of the National Association of Naval Photography (NANP).

President - Todd Frantom
Vice President - Mike Pendergrass
Secretary - Etta Smith
These are key positions that play an important role in the success of events such as the DC Shoot Off and the future shaping of our chapter. It has been both an honor and a pleasure serving you in this past year. I look forward to 2011, and thank Todd, Mike and Etta in advance for their efforts and willingness to take the helm.

Thank you for your time,
Jason Brunson

From Johnny Bivera;

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone on the list is doing well.  Things have been jammed up pretty good on my end.  This note is to address the upcoming DC Shoot Off in March and the first Video Shoot Off in May.

But first let me followup on Jason Brunson's note as he prepares to step down as the NANP President and we look for the next 2011 member to step up and take charge.  Jason's note to everyone below.

All,

It is time once again to elect a new President, Vice President and Secretary of the DC Chapter of the NANP. Please nominate the person you think to be most qualified and deserving to hold the office. List your nominee (along with the position you are nominating them for) in an email to rjbrunsonphoto@hotmail.com, shanetmccoy@gmail.com, brien.aho@gmail.com, and jbfoto@aol.com. We will send out a list of nominees on 25 Nov. Voting will be open from that point until 1 Dec. Please consider your nominations carefully as these are key positions that play an important role in the success of events such as the DC Shoot Off and the future shaping of our chapter.

Thank you for your time,
Jason Brunson

Now for a quick note and I'll end it.  As many of you know, we have used the Navy League facility for the past three years now and I believe we have a nice relationship going with the board.  But that's only as good as the relationship we carry with the national executive director of which the last one who we have been working so hard to bring into our fold has moved on.  What I did manage to do was have a brief meeting with past president Sheila McNeil whom I covered a few times on the hill.  The executive director position has been vacant until very recently and won't be in the office till after Thanksgiving.  Mrs. McNeil did pass me on to Amy Wittman, Editor in Chief of Sea Power Magazine, she is now in our court and will help bring to date our program to the incoming ED.  Our proposed event dates are currently open on the books.  It does look very optimistic that we will be able to proceed with the facility as planned, but we need to lock the reservation as soon as possible after Thanksgiving.  So for those of you that can, remind me daily!

Different discussion... I'm looking to build a leadership board or committee that will represent our veteran community to the NPPA.  My question is, if we create a discussion board and eventually a blog post for veteran members of NPPA, will the effort be warranted?  And will those in a leadership role take the format seriously?  Please let me know your thoughts...

Thanks and have a great and safe week.  JB
